In Kaaskop, guitarist Ed Verhoeff, bassist Boudewijn Lucas, and drummer Lucas van Merwijk join forces to create a unique instrumental reinterpretation of Dutch musical heritage. Through inventive arrangements and improvisation, the trio brings new colour and depth to melodies that have shaped generations of Dutch music.
The repertoire spans far beyond traditional jazz, embracing the full breadth of Dutch musical culture: from iconic artists such as Boudewijn de Groot, Anouk, and Golden Earring, to beloved traditional songs like Aan de Amsterdamse Grachten. Well-known and lesser-known melodies are not simply covered — they are reimagined with a fresh and creative approach.
A 40-year collaboration — rooted in renowned musical careers
The musicians of Kaaskop have been performing together for over 40 years in various formations. Their long shared history is reinforced by an impressive list of artists and ensembles they have collaborated with — names that resonate strongly with both jazz and mainstream audiences.
Ed Verhoeff has performed with celebrated musicians such as Toots Thielemans, Denise Jannah, and Izaline Calister. Boudewijn Lucas is widely known in the pop and soul scene for his work with Trijntje Oosterhuis, Candy Dulfer, the Metropole Orkest, and numerous national television productions. Lucas van Merwijk gained international recognition with projects like the Cubop City Big Band and collaborated with theatre legend Herman Finkers.
