Drummer Lucas van Merwijk often saw the duo Misha Mengelberg/Han Bennink perform in the early '80s and dreamed of forming such a duo with unlimited musical freedom. Over the years, he initiated numerous projects in Cuban music, global groove, jazz, and improvisation. Now, he has found the ideal partner in trombonist Ilja Reijngoud for a new, distinctive musical adventure full of freedom and experimentation.
Ilja Reijngoud has played with legends like Tom Harrell, Ivan Lins, and Pat Metheny, and is a regular member of the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and The Cubop City Big Band. He won an Edison Award and exclusively plays a Kühnl & Hoyer trombone. As a teacher, he is affiliated with the conservatories of Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
Lucas van Merwijk is a leading name in the European Latin, jazz, and percussion scene. He has been repeatedly voted the best jazz and world/fusion drummer by the readers of De Slagwerkkrant. He has led various ensembles such as The Soul of Spanish Harlem and Drums United. Besides his performance work, he is a highly sought-after teacher and conducts workshops and masterclasses worldwide.
